New York-based songwriter and singer Falguni Shah (Stage name: Falu) is a Grammy Award winner. She won the award in 2022 for Best Children’s Album titled A Colorful World. Trained in the Jaipur gharana musical tradition, Falu took musical education under Ustad Sultan Khan, sarangi/vocal master. She joined the Indo-American band Karyshma in 2000 after moving to Boston from Mumbai as lead vocalist. After two years, the Indian-born singer moved to New York and formed her band.
Falu has collaborated with these noted artists, including A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire), Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic), Blues Traveler, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, Ustad Sultan Khan, Wyclef Jean, and Yo-Yo Ma (in The Silk Road Project). Recently, she collaborated with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the ‘Abundance in Millets’ song celebrating the International Year of Millets. This song promotes the real benefits of millet to alleviate world hunger. Falu performs at the 2023 Cricket World Cup at the largest stadium in the world, Narendra Modi Stadium.
